Our Story

That idea — connection as the common thread — is at the heart of how we work.

Many organizations are constantly rethinking how they communicate. AI and new platforms promise efficiency, but overreliance on them too often results in a bland sea of sameness: generic messages that simply don't resonate.  Good communication isn't built on a trend but rather on a consistent, relevant voice that connects with the human experience.

After years of partnering with leaders and teams through change, growth and complexity, Katy created Common Thread Studio to help organizations move from inefficient, fragmented communications to strategies that are both efficient and human — without falling into the trap of AI slop or one-size-fits-all messaging.

Common Thread Studio brings people together, cuts through jargon, and shapes clear stories that help employees, leaders, customers and stakeholders understand what’s changing, why it matters, and how they fit into it. The results are engagement, trust and retention -- weaving the common thread that helps people move forward together.

About the founder

I'm Katy Griggs, and I'm the Founder and Principal of Common Thread Studio. At my core, I'm a communications leader with a passion for excellent storytelling. Over 25+ years, I've built communications teams for highly matrixed, global companies and provided strategic counsel and communications advice to senior executives. With a background at tech and finance companies like U.S. Bank, Elavon, Cox Automotive and more, I have a track record of successfully handling complex projects with high stakes, and for connecting the dots across business lines.

Common threads beyond the studio

That same instinct to connect people shows in my commitment to the profession itself. I'm a lifelong learner and a strong believer in professional development, mentoring junior communicators, and creating space for peers to learn from one another. I currently serve as VP of Professional Development for IABC Atlanta, where I work alongside industry peers to build meaningful, continuous learning opportunities.

In 2025, I also co-launched Her Table Talks, an Atlanta-based community created to support executive women in marketing and communications. What started as a small table of four has grown to 24 incredible women in a short time — proof that when people feel connected, supported, and heard, meaningful growth follows.
